The Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) is a rare but regularly breeding bird in the lake region of Western Switzerland. Yellow buoys mark the border of the nature recreation zone where the birds live. Normally the common tern prefers pebble beaches as breeding ground. But these naturally disturbed wild-waterfronts have become seldom, because of human activities and destruction of the natural environment. Over the last couple of years wooden platforms were built to provide the birds a place for their nests. It is wonderful to see the terns returning every year and raising their young.
