Animals model so much that is useful in teaching us how to navigate our complicated world. The animals I paint represent pieces of me and they communicate what is important in my life. While it’s typical to see them painted in their natural environment, I want the viewer of my artwork to understand how I feIt when I looked at that animal; to have a resonant experience of my emotions when they view my piece. My backgrounds are very specifically designed to communicate that.
