Spotted owls are facing desperate times due to the aggressive behavior exhibited by the barred owl and from habitat loss along the west coast of North America. Nights near my home in Ontario are often punctuated by the soothing call and silent flight of barred owls. They bring to mind the plight of their failing cousins out west and the hope that conservation efforts will facilitate stability in coming years.
