This sculpture is part of my project, “Nostalgia,” and I created it to start a discussion about couple relationships.

With careful thought, I chose an avocet as it is less dimorphic: I didn’t want the discussion to focus on gender issues. Any partner, male or female, can support or be supported, besides there are same-sex couples.

Additionally, female avocets have an active role in courtship as males have a passive one. I feel this reinforces the distancing of gender struggle.
