Brown pelicans are one of my favorite ocean birds. They are big and ungainly on land but are quite graceful in the air. Pelicans may be seen flying in large groups called squadrons, flapping, then coasting just feet above the water. Their long lines rise and dip in an elegant dance with the ocean waves.
