The Peregrine Falcon is a magnificent raptor—the embodiment of an apex predator; it is the fastest animal in the world and the master of the famous Peregrine stoop (a steep dive).

Peregrine Falcons mate for life. Pairs defend a home range of about 20-30 square km. While the female incubates the eggs and the chicks are newly hatched, the family unit is fed on the nest by the male, hence the name of my painting, “You’re Late!”

This portrait of Peregrine domesticity (comfortably nestled in the hills above Cambridge, Tasmania) hopefully provides the viewer with a snapshot of another side to these magnificent raptors—that of protective maternal instinct and commitment.
