The Chilean flamingo is closely related to the American flamingo. The IUCN has these beautiful birds listed as near threatened. They breed in South America from Ecuador and Peru to Chile and Argentina and east to Brazil. Often, they are found at shallow lakes and lagoons, even coastal waters.
