The Florida Sandhill Crane inhabits many inland wetlands of Florida. During mating, sandhill cranes perform dancing displays. Although the dancing is most common in the breeding season, the cranes can dance all year long.
I came across this sandhill crane while it was preening. I was immediately drawn to its bright red head, and how it tucked up under its wing. The angle was different, yet unique to the sandhill crane. I knew that was the composition that I wanted to draw.
