The human soul, mind, spirit. This is the definition of psyche, a greek word that is also the name for butterflies. Irish folklore also attributes a butterfly to the soul. I placed this clouded yellow butterfly on the lock to represent the journey that is undertaken when we meditate and sit with our mind. When I sit, my mind is constantly flitting from one thought to the next. I sit in order to unlock myself from habitual thought patterns. Through mindfulness practice, I am trying to awaken, to gently get in touch with my underlying spirit, and gain expanded, open awareness.
